This spacious beach house sits on one of the island's most enchanting beaches; wide and long, Mahawella Beach is typically deserted save for the fishermen that busily haul their catamarans in from the rolling surf and litter them colourfully on the soft golden sand. Sited back from the beach, Thalassa is a six bedroom property that epitomizes barefoot living and highlights the comforts and conviviality of a family home. Thalassa was recently designed by Amila De Mel, a talented architect who has worked with Geoffrey Bawa in the past, and its clean lines, pillared verandahs and ease of airflow through the property hint at Bawa's tropical idealism. The word 'thalassa' means 'sea' in Greek, and this mirrors the villa's advantageous location overlooking the expansive free-wheeling waves of the Indian Ocean.
Thalassa sits amidst abundant greenery, with a grassy palm shaded lawn that stretches naturally down to the beach. To the front of the property is the sleeping/living area that houses six bedrooms as well as a Sitting Room with a large day bed and an adjacent toilet that can double up as a seventh room if necessary. From here a walkway flanked by beautiful Indian temple pillars and crimson heliconia takes you past the enclosed yellow, blue and green tiled swimming pool with Jacuzzi to the spacious kitchen and dining area, behind which are located the staff quarters. Just off from the sociable dining verandah is a cosy study with satellite TV, books and games.
Thalassa offers the ideal tropical hideaway for large groups of families and friends. Enhanced by a range of antiques, modern furnishings and artwork that is predominantly Sri Lankan, Thalassa's mix of both sociable and intimate areas, both inside of the villa and out, offer plenty of opportunities for anyone to enjoy some private time, even if within a group. The rolling surf is popular with bodysurfers and swimmers whilst the less active can bask in the sunshine and privacy of the villa's beautiful pool. | Rates Include All taxes and service charges. All villas come with staff Cleaner (Daily), Chef/Cook (Full time), and Security. Check in – 3.00pm, Check out - 10.00am Late check outs up to 6.00pm may incur a half day charge, after 6.00pm a full day may be charged. Every effort will be made to accommodate other check in/out times but will depend on availability. Cancellation Policy All cancellations must be advised in writing and will take effect the day we receive it. Standard Cancellation Terms apply however where possible we voluntarily negotiate with the hotels and service providers on your behalf and refund all recoverable costs for cancellations beyond our terms and conditions. Our standard cancellation policy is as follows: Off Peak Period • If you cancel more than 45 days prior to arrival the deposit is non-refundable. • If you cancel between 30 and 45 days prior to arrival the cancellation is 40% of the villa price. • If you cancel between 15 and 29 days prior to arrival the cancellation is 60% of the villa price. • If you cancel between 14and 0 days prior to arrival the cancellation is 100% of the villa price. Peak Period. Payment Terms A deposit is payable to when you confirm your booking. The deposit amount may vary depending on the seasonality. We will advise the exact deposit. The deposit is non refundable and is taken on behalf of the property and is required to secure the accommodation. For all bookings once we receive the non refundable deposit we will provide you with a booking voucher with the full villa or hotel details giving confirmed dates and full details of the booking. In all villa bookings full payment must be received one month in advance. For a villa booking a security deposit equal to one day's rent may be payable on your arrival by way of cash. The deposit will be used as security for any damages and or charges incurred by you during your stay. This amount less any chargeable items will be returned to you upon departure. |
