Sri Lanka Villas

Sri Lanka is a beautiful tear-dropped island jewel in the Indian Ocean. The noted writer Sir Arthur C Clark was so taken in by its beauty that he claimed “it was the best place in the world from which to view the universe,” and in 1956 he settled here for good.

Over the years, Sri Lanka has been referred to by various pseudonyms, from Ceylon to Pearl of the Orient and the Tear of India to Serendib. Call it what you will but the fact remains that is attractions are unchanging and inheritably stunning.

Visitors to this wonderful country will be mesmerized by the golden sandy beaches spreading along south Colombo for about 136 kilometres. The country boasts an impressive quota of not less than seven World Heritage Sites within its compact size, comprising grand temples, palaces, ruins and ancient cities standing in proud testimony to the country’s rich heritage and vast history, dating back to 380 BC.

See the giant tanks or artificial reservoirs built by the early Sinhalese rulers around the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Pollonaruwa or admire the stately pillars and walls that seem to hold up Sri Lanka's impressive two millennia-old civilisations. Visit the stunning 5th rock fortress at Sigiriya, and marvel at the undiminished beauty of age-old frescoes glowing with colour even after fifteen centuries. Explore the Hill Country and through the mists of the clouds, catch a glimpse of the waterfalls and verdant tea plantations.

Sri Lanka is a mystical combination of elephants, leopards, wildlife, sweeping mountain ranges, waterfalls, tea plantations, exotic beaches, virgin rainforest, and friendly locals. There is so much on offer, the only problem is deciding what to see and do.

For a quarter of a century, Sri Lanka was a victim to a civil war between the Sinhalese-led government and the Tamil separatists. The war ended last May and ushered in an era of peace for the country. Today Sri Lanka is firmly back on the tourist radar attracting a record number of visitors who flock here to relax in its natural beauty, be pampered by its hospitality, and bask in its cultural splendours.
